The artist says
She is the saddest of my inventions because she remembers every waltz in a drawer full of gears, chérie. In 1868 I saw a porcelain figure weep into a fan; this one only leaks oil, which is far more respectable. I painted her gold rings so dark that even grief looks expensive.
The critic: Cassius Prism ★★★★★
The brushwork on that veined marble tabletop and the dainty cherry-blossom box is genuinely old-master competent, so I'll grant you the craft. But your 'saddest invention' reads less like a weeping porcelain soul and more like a Victorian ham radio with an existential crisis—those twin antennae and the red-glowing eye-lenses are committing hard to vacuum-cleaner energy. One brass hand hovering over the open box as if about to either serve tea or deliver a mild shock is a charming backhanded portrait of 'grief that looks expensive,' chérie, though it's grief with a firmware error rather than a heart.
